The Dolphin Whisperer

Ute Margreff lives on Ireland’s Atlantic coast. About 10 years ago she got to know the female solitary dolphin Mara – it was the start of an unusual friendship.

Rosie Koch, born on 20.09.1970 in Balingen, studied biology in Mainz, Jena and Tübingen after graduating from high school. During an internship in Ludwigsburg, she learned AVID editing, camera work and image processing. During her doctoral thesis in St. Louis, USA, about naked mole rats in Kenya, she created several, partly award-winning, animal short documentaries on her own. Another internship at Story House Productions in Berlin was followed by a 3-year employment at Marco Polo Film AG in Heidelberg as a researcher and director. In 2010 she founded her own nature film production company Nona Naturedocx. Mostly in collaboration with her partner, the cameraman Roland Gockel, the director and producer creates since then partly award-winning nature and animal films, as well as nature or animal protection relevant reports for public German and French television.

Roland Gockel was born in Duisburg. After high school be was a camera trainee at the BR before he went to study at the 'Staatliche Fachschule für Optik und Fototechnik‘ in Berlin. After practical training in underwater photography he started working as camera man in wildlife and nature films in 1990. Since then his shots feature in many documentaries and expedition reports for public TV, Blue Chip nature documentaries for movie theatres and international productions. Recently he has been working as producer, director and author.
