Director: Barbara Völkel
Barbara Völkel was born in 1964 in Altenhundem, now Lennestadt, North Rhine-Westphalia. She studied Medieval and Modern History with specialized journalism, politics and criminal law in Giessen. Graduation Magister Artium.
Barbara Völkel has worked for ZDF since 1991, initially as an editor in the ZDF broadcasting department and at 3sat. From October 1992 to October 2001, she worked as an investigative editor in the ZDF chief editorial department for the political magazine FRONTAL, and also as a presenter for the event and documentary channel phoenix.
From 2002 until today Barbara Völkel reports worldwide as a ZDF reporter on investigative topics in the field of environment (planet e), crime, corruption and terrorism.
Since 2016, she has been working in the ZDF main editorial department Aktuelles Leitung and also reports worldwide for heute-journal, among others. She is a member of the investigative EBU (European Broadcasting Union) steering committee in Brussels and is responsible for the implementation of investigative projects.
Director: Berndt Welz
Berndt Welz has been producing documentaries worldwide for many years. His focus is on critical and also investigative environmental, climate, agricultural and nature topics. Berndt Welz studied economics in Munich, attended the Burda School of Journalism and worked as a trainee at the Münchner Abendzeitung. He was a member of the editorial team at ProSieben (knowledge formats), deputy editorial director at Süddeutsche TV, chief reporter at Focus TV and editorial director of Wunderwelt Wissen (ProSieben). Since 2011 at the latest, however, he has devoted himself entirely to documentaries, his great passion.
