The giant water lily from the Amazon stands out among aquatic plants. Its leaves can reach a diameter of more than two meters - but it starts small, too. First, a thorny bud strives through the water towards the sun and the surface. There, it moves in circles and pushes other plants out of the way. Finally, the leaf unfolds, impaling or rolling over other plants and depriving them of light.
