Carved in granite

EZ vom 27.08.13

Green Screen has left lasting marks: since the premiere of the International Wildlife Film Festival in 2007, a total of 63 granite slabs bearing the names of previous award-winners have been set into the red brick pavement of Eckernfoerde's promenade - one every 2.6 metres. In 2011, this stretch was officially named "Green-Screen-Promenade".
This "Walk of Fame" is Eckernförde's very own way of honouring the prize-winners of each festival in addition to the awards ceremony. Apart from the festival's lush green logo and engraved lettering, every single slab bears the name of a Green Screen awardee. The Walk of Fame is steadily growing, meanwhile already measuring far more than 100 metres in length. Eventually, it will comprise the entire beachfront promenade as a permanent reminder of the successful festival.
After the city of Eckernfoerde withdrew from funding the slabs, Karin Lembke from Bohnert near Eckernfoerde took over sponsoring the trophies, thus making one of the largest private donations to the festival. This year she made her contribution for the third time - the 15 stones showing last year's winners were embedded in the pavement just a few days ago.
"Green Screen is a wonderful and unique story", she says. "Eckernfoerde can be proud of its festival." Stonemason Michael Kranz deserves much praise for crafting the slabs in night shifts due to his well-filled order-book. Karin Lembke: "He really did his utmost."
According to Michael Packschies, deputy chairman of the Green Screen promotion society, many passers-by take note of the granite slabs. Just like the honorees, who come to visit their trophies on the promenade, ridding them of sand and making photographs of them for their facebook page.
