Fourth International Wildlife Film Festival GREEN SCREEN

Patronage by the Federal Environment Minister

The fourth International Wildlife Film Festival "GREEN SCREEN"     -  September 9th - 12th  2010 in Eckernförde - will be run under the patronage of The Federal Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen. This shows the importance of Germany's most famous wildlife film festival and its countrywide reputation. In 2009 more than 90 films from more than 20 nations were shown to 8000 attendants in Eckernförde and another 3000 audience enjoyed the famous wildlife film "Earth" during an outdoor screening in Bad Segeberg. GREEN SCREEN will keep developing and growing. The main message and ambitious aim of the festival is: Let us counteract the increasing destruction of nature and the loss of the variety of species.

Apart from the popular outdoor event in Bad Segeberg - in 2010 it will take place on August 16th - GREEN SCREEN will invite wildlife fans to screenings in Flensburg, Damp and Hamburg.
On March 18th Green Screen will present itself at the representation of the federal state Schleswig-Holstein in Berlin as the German wildlife film festival, thus proving that it has gained importance and reputation far beyond the region.

The wildlife departments of the famous German TV-stations NDR and WDR have announced to cooperate in 2010 as well as the Austrian ORF and the BBC, both regarded as top wildlife film producers. Filmmakers from Israel, Costa Rica, Iran and Mozambique have recently participated and the first 2010 entries from all over Europe, India and Australia have already arrived. Some famous German actors have joined us in our engagement for nature and environment. In 2009 Hans Jaenicke's film " Einsatz für Orang-Utans" was part of the festival and in 2010  Florian Guthknecht will show his film "Die Schöne und der Hai" with Wolke Hegenbarth.

Our cooperation with the Heinz-Sielmann-Foundation ensures a nationwide acceptance of the festival, a cooperation that will be intensified. For instance the foundation will support the forthcoming presence of the festival within the Berlinale. A nationwide tour titled " Best of Green Screen" will we planned in close cooperation. Inge Sielmann herself will again present the Heinz-Sielmann-Award in Eckernförde this year. Her husband's legendary TV-program "Expeditionen ins Tierreich" will have its fiftieth anniversary in 2010 and is still fascinating.

Like Heinz Sielmann GREEN SCREEN does not only show fascinating wildlife films but also puts emphasis our common responsibility for a co-existence of man and animal in an unspoilt nature. Therefore Green Screen is organizing film camps in the wildlife park of Eekholt and is cooperating with a number of schools. In 2009 more than 800 pupils took part in these activities. On top of that several workshops during the festival will offer critical and open-minded discussions with various experts.
