Conditions of Participation 2024

1. Film Competition

1.1. Organizer
Organizer and sponsor is the Förderverein GREEN SCREEN-Festival e.V.

1.2. Eligibility
Eligible for the competition are films featuring nature-, animal- and environmental themes that were completed no more than three years ago at the time of submission. The focus here is mainly on documentaries, but thematically appropriate films of other genres are also welcome. A film that has been submitted once, but has not been selected, can only be submitted one more time. If the original version is neither English nor German, the film must be subtitled in German or English.

1.3. Categories
The GREEN SCREEN Competition includes film awards in various categories.

1.3.1. Main categories, for which it is not possible to register (Runtime > 20 min).

• GREEN SCREEN Nature Film Award (Award from all nominated productions)
• Heinz Sielmann Film Award (Award from all nominated productions)

1.3.2. Crafts categories (Runtime > 20 min) for which registration is required.

• Best Cinematography
• Best Score
• Best Postproduction
• Best Story 1.3.3.

1.3.3. Other categories (Runtime > 20 min) for which registration is required.

• Best Innovative Film
• Best Marine Film
• Best Science Film
• Best Newcomer
• Nordic Nature Film Award
• Award of the Juvenile Jury

1.3.4. Audience Award categories (Runtime from 40 to 60 min) for which it is not possible to register.

1.3.5. Audience Award categories (Runtime up to 20 min) for which registration is required.

• Audience Award Best Short Film/Audience Award Best Short Film for Kids

1.4. Prize Money
Prize money is awarded in different amounts for each category, which can vary from year to year.

1.5. Award winners
Award winners in categories 1.3.2. are the respective performers. In all other categories it is the directors, unless there is another agreement between the submitter and the director. The submitter is responsible for the distribution of the prize money.

1.6. Juries
The organiser appoints various independent expert juries and a juvenile jury each year.

• Nomination Jury
The Nomination Jury nominates three films per category from all submitted films (1.3.2, 1.3.3. and 1.3.4.). Excluding the Juvenile Jury Award. In exceptional cases, the number may be deviated from. The nomination jury has the option to change and/or exchange the chosen submission category in exceptional cases and in consultation with the submitters.

• Award Jury
The Award Jury will determine the winners in the respective categories (1.3.1., 1.3.2. and 1.3.3.)

• Juvenile Jury
The Juvenile Jury will nominate three films among all productions submitted for the Award of the Juvenile Jury (1.3.3.) and determine the winner in this category.

• Short Film Jury
The Short Film Jury selects one or more short film programs from all short films submitted (1.3.5.). These films are nominated for the corresponding Short Film Audience Awards.

The decisions of the juries are final and not subject to appeal. The same applies to the results of the secret ballot by the audience, which determines the winners of the audience prizes (1.3.4., 1.3.5.). The legal process is excluded.

1.7. Festival Program
All nominated films will be screened during the festival. In addition, other films worth seeing will be selected by the organizer for the festival program.

 

2. Filmsubmission

2.1. Submission Deadline
The film submission for the GREEN SCREEN Festival 2024 is possible from 12/15/2023 - 03/15/2024. Films will be judged in all selected categories. One submission must be completed for each film (also for series). The online submission and a copy of the submitted film (see 2.3.) must be received by GREEN SCREEN e.V., Frau-Clara-Str. 18, 24340 Eckernförde, Germany by the submission deadline. The online submission is also valid without signature.

2.2. Submission Fees
A fee of € 75.00 will be charged per submitted film. This includes a category to be specified by the submitter (see 1.3.2., 1.3.3.). In addition, the film will be considered for categories for which it cannot be entered (see 1.3.1., 1.3.4.). The fee in the category Best Newcomer is € 30,00. Each additional category costs € 5,00. The submission fee serves to cover administrative costs and is therefore non-refundable, even if the submitted film is not selected or does not meet the entry requirements.

The fee must be credited to the account GREEN SCREEN e.V. IBAN: DE14 2109 2023 0011 3735 23 BIC: GENODEF1EFO Eckernförder Bank eG or to the PayPal account info@greenscreen-festival.de no later than 14 days after the submission deadline (All prices incl. VAT). The submission fee serves to cover administrative costs and is therefore non-refundable, even if the submitted film is not selected or does not meet the entry requirements.

The submission of short films (see 1.3.5.) is free of charge.

Earlybird: 25% off the full entry fee for submissions until January 31, 2024.

2.3. Screening Media
Media files preferably as download link (specify in the online form, or mail to film@greenscreen-festival.de) or on hard disk/stick in MP4 format (H.264, AAC, Stereo, CBR@25fps) or on BluRay. Please send films without channel identifier and copy protection.

The submission of screening media is at the risk and expense of the submitter. Screening media on hard disk/stick/BluRay from non-EU countries must have the customs declaration "For cultural purposes only, shipment has no commercial value". Costs incurred by the organizer due to a false declaration will be charged to the submitter. Re-import papers may need to be requested from the relevant customs office and enclosed with the return.

All submitted material remains with the organizer. Return of screening media upon request (please specify the return address in the online submission form). Screening copies are insured with their material value until the end of the event. Any claims for damages are to be asserted within 10 days after return.

 

3. Usage and rights

3.1. Use for the Festival
The submission is binding. A submitted film may not be withdrawn.

The submitter of a film declares that he/she is authorized to submit the film and makes it available to the organizer free of charge for public screenings.

3.2. Use for Public Relations
The submitter confirms that up to three minutes of the submitted film as well as all submitted photographs and film images may be used by the organizer for public relations purposes, provided the copyright is acknowledged. This refers to the use in all media (e.g. festival program, print, radio, television and online media). Only the use in the context of public relations can be partially or completely contradicted.

3.3. Use for educational programs and special events
The festival also includes an educational program for schools as well as special events where films from the festival program are shown by the organizer beyond the festival period to promote the festival and attract new audiences to the nature film genre. These events, like the festival, are non-commercial. The organizer will also present outstanding films from the festival program in an abridged form as part of a "Best Of" tour program. With the submission, the submitter agrees that his or her film may be used for these events, subject to prior agreement.

3.4. Rights of Use
The submitter guarantees that it holds all the necessary rights for uses pursuant to Item 3.1. and, if applicable, 3.2. and 3.3. of the Conditions of Participation and that it is entitled to transfer these rights of use. He further assures that no copyrights or ancillary copyrights or personal rights of third parties are infringed by these uses. In the event of claims by third parties as a result of an infringement of such rights, the entrant undertakes to indemnify the organizer against any resulting claims. This also includes necessary and reasonable costs of a legal defense.

3.5. Archive
By submitting a film, the submitter agrees to the inclusion of their production in the Green Screen Archive.

3.5. Consent
By submitting a film, the submitter recognizes and accepts the above conditions of participation.


The conditions of participation are prepared in both German and English. In case of doubt, the German version shall prevail. In case of dispute, German law shall apply. The place of jurisdiction is Eckernförde.

If individual provisions of these Terms and Conditions of Participation are invalid or if there is a loophole, this shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions. The invalid or missing provision shall be replaced by a provision that comes closest to the purpose of the contract in compliance with the statutory provisions.

For the sake of better readability, personal terms are only used in the masculine form, but refer to men, women and diverse in the same way.
