Lithuania – Green Land on Baltic Sea Coast

A country between sand dunes and unspoilt woodlands, crisscrossed with deep river valleys and extensive lake landscapes: that is Lithuania – the green heart of Europe. An unique habitat for beavers and storks, bison and moose. Lithuania is also home to Kazimieras Mizgiris. As passionate photographer and collector of amber, he has fulfilled a lifelong dream – a year with his camera, travelling through its different regions.

Uldis Cekulis created the independent production company Vides Filmu Studija (VFS) that has become the leader in the Baltic States in making documentaries and TV programmes with a focus on “man and nature” stories. He has worked on more than twenty documentaries both as well as with the TV channels LTV, ETV, LRT, NDR, arte, YLE, SBS TV, ORT, ERT, RAI, SAT.

Valdis Abols joined Vides Filmu Studija in 2001 after having decided to finish his diplomatic career. Since then, he has been a staff member responsible for the company’s legal and commercial affairs. He has also been involved in a number of TV projects and documentaries produced by Vides Filmu Studija as project manager, author, scriptwriter (“Estland – Wölfe, Biber, Bären”, “Lettland – Wildnis zwischen Russland und Riga”), text editor and translator.
