A special group of island macaques became famous when they were seen washing potatoes in the sea. In the dense primeval forest one hears the cries of the Okinawa woodpecker or the Okinawa crake. In the mongrove swamps there is a completely different picture - when at low tide the water receeds, strange animals appear: fiddler crabs and und mud skippers search for food in the mud. More than 3,000 kilometres further north on the island Hokkaido small baby bears learn the lessons of life
