The Festival 2019
The Wildlife Film Festival Green Screen, which ended on September, 15th in Schleswig-Holstein's Eckernförde, set another visitor record with over 22 300 spectators. For this year's topic "Climate Change" Green Screen offered numerous special films and political discussions. On five festival days a total of 119 films were shown. With this viewer interest, Green Screen is the largest nature film festival in Europe. In addition, 220 experts from the natural film industry from all over the world visited the festival, including representatives from the USA and South Africa. Green Screen is on the road in addition to the five festival days twelve months a year: special events throughout Germany and Denmark reach another 22 500 nature-loving visitors. Of the total of more than 45 000 spectators, 8 700 schoolchildren will be attending the festival's nature education programs this year

After finishing school he studied ‘Broadcast Production’ at the University of Wisconsin. Having travelled the world ‘romance’ prompted him to return to Europe in 1992. He became a filmmaker dedicated to social and ecological matters. A father of two sons, he and his wife now live in a village close to Kiel.

Ever since she has been in charge of the organization as well as the scientific supervision of all their film projects and international co-productions. A geographer by profession, Michael Packschies is a staunch environmentalist working for Eckernförde municipality for more than 30 years in charge of environmentally compatible town and landscape planning. He is responsible for environmental public relations activities. In that capacity he met up with his school pal Gerald Grote in 2004. On that occasion they first discussed the possibility of a wildlife film festival. Gerald Grote went on to become the first Green Screen festival director and Michael Packschies the interface between Eckernförde municipality and GREEN SCREEN. Michael dedicates a significant part of his personal time to the festival.

Karsten Wiesel lives and works in Hamburg. Next to his work as film author and curator, he teaches at Europa University Flensburg and at Philipps University Marburg. He also runs media education projects for children and grown-ups at schools and cultural institutions.

Oliver Goetzl is a Hamburg based biologist and wildlife film producer (GULO FILM PRODUCTIONS) working as director, author and film editor. GULO documentaries focus predominantly on animal behaviour and on rare charismatic species and those that have never been filmed before. Oliver firmly believes that it is the admiration of their achievements in particular and the fascination of animals in general that provide an important basis for the willingness and endeavours to protect them and their habitats. GULO films have been successful at national and international festivals: They won around 300 awards such as “Best Film” – Green Screen 2018, “Best Animal Behaviour” – Green Screen 2015 and “Animal Behaviour Award” – Wildscreen 2012. Next to his own films and German cinema productions such as “Russland” and “Serengeti” Oliver has participated in major international productions, e.g. as field producer and additional cinematographer for the Disneynature feature film “Monkey Kingdom” and for prestigious landmark series such as BBC’s “Frozen Planet”. Oliver has been asked to act as a member of the jury at more than a dozen national and international film festival, a task that he thoroughly enjoys.

Born in 1986 on the very day of the huge Chernobyl disaster, Heike’s path has always been defined by the wish to “do things differently”. As a child she collected animals too slow to escape and “nursed” them lovingly. When finishing her studies of journalism and media communication in 2009 she did not realize that her love of animals would lead her to wildlife film. Not until 2011, when the production company Blue Planet Film assigned her to oversee the organization of a large wildlife film project on the Congo River, was her path cemented. Four years after its finalization she went freelance and together with a colleague founded the company “Flying Pangolin Film”.
