On Thin Ice

Only 2 degrees more - what does that mean for the huge areas at the Russian polar circle? Wild animals, indigenous people and scientists have long been confronted with the consequences of climate change there. Unstoppable, perhaps irreversible, natural "foundations" of the Arctic are being shaken. Gigantic craters are opening in the permafrost. Taiga fires devastate entire regions, rivers mutate into rivulets and pack ice fields melt in record time. In the Russian Arctic, a "Pandora's Box" opens.
