Thies Hinrichsen
StudentThies Hinrichsen
My name is Thies Hinrichsen and I am 24 years old. In 2014 I took part in the GreenScreen Nature Film Camp and gained my first experience in nature film there. After that I started making nature films on my own and was able to win the GreenScreen Youth Film Award in 2016. In the course of a voluntary ecological year in the Bavarian Forest National Park, my enthusiasm for nature film grew more and more. Therefore, I decided to study biology in Kiel from 2017. In my free time, nature film remained my constant companion. In 2019, I got a taste of nature film editing with Oliver Goetzl, where I cut a scene for "Africa's Mysterious Worlds - In the Heart of the Volcano". During that time, I also began more regularly editing small projects for the Schleswig-Holstein Nature Conservation Foundation, such as a film about moor frog courtship. In 2020, a small film about the GreenScreen Region Eckernförde was made in cooperation with Touristik Eckernförde. In the same year, I filmed for a good two weeks at a badger's den. The footage of the badger family found its way into Christoph Hauschild's new documentary about the Schorfheide, which made me very happy! Also in 2020, I was part of Thomas Behrend's film team for the first time. Together we were on Anholt and Bornholm. This year there are more filming trips with him and for him! I am already very excited about it! At the same time I am about to produce two own films in the course of the year about the Schlei and about a moor! I'm excited to see what the next few months in nature film will bring me! I'm just as excited to be part of the youth jury at the GreenScreen festival this year! I'm looking forward to viewing all the films and hopefully learning a few things myself
Philipp Hoy
Research DiverPhilipp Hoy
Philipp Hoy, who grew up in Eckernförde, was already fascinated by everything that happened below the water's surface when he was in kindergarten. From an early age, he took a close look at the Baltic Sea beach in Eckernförde with a mask and snorkel. At the age of 15 Philipp learned to dive and since then he has spent every free minute with his camera in the Baltic Sea. His first short films about the underwater world of Eckernförde Bay followed with "Unter der Mole" and "Kalmare vor der Haustür". In his current short film "The Secret of the Mussel Bank" Philipp takes the viewer on a journey into the surprisingly colorful and wild world on and in a mussel bank. The 23-year-old diving instructor and research diver is now studying biosciences in Rostock.
Gamander López-Caparrós Jungmann
StudentGamander López-Caparrós Jungmann
My name is Gamander López, I am 19 years old and I am currently doing my Abitur at the Waldorfschule Aachen. I have always enjoyed observing animals. Since I got my first camera in 2012, I'm actually out in nature every free minute, looking for new encounters with wildlife to capture. I love taking pictures, but my big passion is filming. I was 14 when I first submitted an entry to the Heinz Sielmann Youth Film Award and was invited to the Green Screen Festival. The feedback at Green Screen has always given me motivation to make new films and expand my knowledge. With my film "Der Wald hinter den Bäumen" (The Forest Behind the Trees), which I completed in 2019 after two years of work, I was able to win the Heinz Sielmann Youth Film Award and the Best Short Film for Kids award at Green Screen and the first prize at the German Youth Film Award in the 16-20 year old category, among others. The goal with my films is to show people how beautiful nature actually is and what you can discover even in your immediate surroundings if you look closely. My dream is to continue making animal films after school.
Karin Lorenz
StudentKarin Lorenz
Karin Lorenz became enthusiastic about filming and photographing in nature at an early age. With her short films she won several first prizes at the youth film competitions of the Darß Nature Film Festival and the GreenScreen Festival in Eckernförde. But music has also played a major role since her childhood days. There she discovered her passion for improvising and composing. So she first started to produce music for her own films. Alongside her studies at the University of Music Lübeck, new doors have now opened: for some time now, she has been working on projects with Thies Hinrichsen and composing music for his nature films.

Hilco Jansma
FilmmakerHilco Jansma
Hilco Jansma (1979) is a Dutch biologist and wildlife filmmaker. During his childhood he developed a great interest in the natural world. Studying biology was the most logical next step. After his studies he took up his hobby in filming and eventually switched careers in 2014. With a mirrorless camera and a drone borrowed from a friend, he started filming a park in his city for a full year. In 2015 he released his first documentary ‘The Noorderplantsoen’ which was selected for several international wildlife film festivals, among which Greenscreen, where he received a special mention. Now it was time for another film adventure, one that took longer than expected, because of a shy and mysterious subject; the Dutch otter. Albatross World Sales had by then already offered a contract for international distribution. With the support of Cees van Kempen (Ispida Wildlife Productions), Hilco set out to film and research the otter that had just made a comeback in The Netherlands. After 4 years he gathered enough footage to produce the first documentary on the elusive and rare Dutch otter. Dutch public broadcaster EO signed a contract to air it January 2021 in The Netherlands, at the start of the year of the otter.

Recording of Seminar 1
Naturfilm aktuell - New exploitation chains
Thursday, Sept. 09th 2021, 10 a.m., Galerie 66
Host: Dirk Steffens (Festival Director)
"ARD online - new presentation possibilities of the nature film"
Speaker: Jörn Röver, Managing Director Doclights GmbH
Since the beginning of the year, the ARD Mediathek has included the section "ARD Natur - Erlebnis Erde" (ARD Nature - Experience Earth), and matching social media presences are being planned. Thus, the demand for additional material to the animal films or for new formats is growing.
One idea - countless possibilities
Speaker: Dr. Claudia Zenkert, Managing Director SEETREE GmbH
TV stations worldwide are expanding their digital strategy and are looking for online outlets for their productions. This is an opportunity for filmmakers to exploit their projects on multiple levels. It's time to think ideas more holistically. What do you need to look out for in contracting and how can you leverage synergies?
Challenges and opportunities of a cross-outlet approach.
Exploitation through international world sales
Speaker: Anne Olzmann, Managing Director Albatross World Sales
In addition to the classic international TV market, an enormous non-linear market has established itself with a multitude of new VOD players.
Which platforms are really interesting? Which rights are licensed? Is it worth it at all?

Quo vadis environmental reporting - catastrophic or constructive - what can/should films about environmental problems achieve?
Christian Cools Sabine Holzer Dirk Steffens Thomas Weidenbach Friday, Sept. 10th 2021, 10 a.m., Galerie 66
It discusses: Christian Cools Editor Arte TV), Sabine Holzer (Head of Specialist Factual Terra Mater Factual Studios), Dirk Steffens (TV Moderator), Thomas Weidenbach (Producer Längengrad GmbH)
Climate change, loss of species, destruction of nature - never before have environmental problems been so much in the focus of social debate and in the media. What does this mean for filmmakers, producers and editors who deal with such topics? Constantly painting the catastrophe on the wall? Does that lead to more engagement on the part of the viewer or to disinterest? Or should solutions and visions be pointed out, as the advocates of "constructive" journalism want? The makers of the ARTE film series "Good News from the Planet" have opted for positive examples instead of doomsday scenarios and have met with a lot of response, especially among younger people. Other formats such as „Plan B“ from the ZDF also rely on positive examples. Could this groundbreaking? Or is it greenwashing?

Projects from previous pitches have already been realized and the event led to several other projects in the making
Anatomy of a Production - Diary of a Bee
Saturday, Sept. 11th 2021, 10 a.m., Galerie 66
Speaker: Jan Stefan Kolbe, Brian McClatchy, Dennis Wells
3 year production period, 16 hives, 4 stations, 148 shooting days, 108 editing days, 50 TB of footage, an orchestra, and probably the most anatomically accurate computer model of a bee. All this to tell the 6-week life of a single bee. Because it's worth it - at least that's what the creative team behind the film "Diary of a Bee" thinks. Director Dennis Wells, cameraman Brian McClatchy and editor Jan Stefan Kolbe talk about the challenge of looking a bee in the eye with a camera, finding the fearful look of a bee in the footage and what to do when the bees don't read the script.
