Jens Monath studied political science, economics and eastern European history at the University of Munich and in London. He joined ZDF as a freelance writer / director in 1990, covering current affairs in more than 50 countries. A full-time employee of ZDF, he has increasingly specialized in (science) documentaries. Jens was a regular contributor as writer/director/editor to ZDF’s Prime Time Documentary, Tuesday evening at 8:15 p.m. Since January 1, 2009 he is working for the most established TV documentary slot of ZDF, the Sunday night show at 7.30 p.m. – TERRA X – which contains a large percentage of high-end drama sequences and CGI. Jens is also responsible for some mini-series and has done several coproductions with partners such as the BBC (Hiroshima, The Celts), Channel 4 (Hindenburg), France 2 (Changing Climates), History Channel (Ida-the-fossil) and others.
